米国議会図書館（LC）からMARC 21フォーマットに、アクセシビリティに関する情報を提供するメタデータ項目の追加の提案がなされています。
Proposal No. 2017-11: Defining New Fields to Record Accessibility Content in the MARC 21 Bibliographic Format (Network Development and MARC Standards Office, Library of Congress)
まだ使用されていない341フィールドと、532フィールドに以下の項目を追加する提案です。
- 341 – Accessibility Content（schema.orgのaccessModeやaccessibilityFeatureに相当するもの。統制された語彙を入れる）
- 532 – Accessibility Note（アクセシビリティに関する注記）
schema.orgのaccessModeやaccessibilityFeatureについては、以下を参照してください。
一般向け資料と障害者向け資料が区別されているところも多いのではないかと思うのですが、一般資料でも障害の状況次第でその人にとっては使える資料、使いやすい資料もあり、逆に障害者向け資料とされるものでも使えない資料といううものもあるのではないかと思います。上のようなアクセシビリティメタデータが追加されることで、1点1点について、自分の能力と資料のアクセシビリィ状況を勘案して資料を選択できるようになります。
MARC21にアクセシビリティメタデータの項目が追加され、MARC21を採用する世界中の国立図書館が、全ての資料についてアクセシビリティメタデータが付与されるようになれば（なればですが）、全ての資料についてアクセシビリティに関する情報がわかるようになるわけで、今回のLCの提案はそんな夢のような状況が生む種になりえるものだと思います。
